The civil war that began in Liberia, West Africa in 1989, resulted in demoralizing individuals and families.   As a result, most children have not been to school since the war, causing illiteracy and poverty for those young children.   In addition many of these young children have serious mental illness.

Some of these children have become street kids, trying to survive by stealing, prostituting and getting involved in other associated crimes. The Majority of these children have poor health conditions. The main causes of this health crisis are lack of basic nutrition and lack of health care.
